Family Document Dates

THE PRACTICAL GUIDE

Keep the next step clear.

Start a household

Choose Create your household, enter a nickname, then add a document. Enter the type, optional issuer, a complete Gregorian YYYY-MM-DD date (or mark it unknown), and optionally the last four characters. Never enter a full identity number. You can explore a fictional household before entering personal data.

Check the original

Compare the stored details with the original document, then choose Check against original. This records your confirmation and timestamp only. The app cannot check authenticity, government records, renewal approval, legal validity or entry rules. A date in the future is not a travel recommendation.

Correction or renewal?

Use Correct a typo or recorded detail to fix information; the earlier snapshot stays in history and confirmation must be renewed. Use Start renewal work while you are arranging a replacement. The current expiry does not change. Once you have the new document, choose Record renewed document and enter its actual details. Cancel renewal work if you stop; cancellation is retained.

Reminder dates and timezone

The default schedule is 180, 90 and 30 calendar days before expiry. You may enter up to 12 unique offsets from 0 to 3650 days. Settings has a reusable template and local notification time. Existing schedules are not rewritten by changing the template. The household timezone stays fixed when your device travels; changing it in Settings rebuilds notification times without shifting entered expiry dates.

Enable reminders in Settings when you want iOS to ask permission. If denied, enable them in system settings or continue using the board. The earliest 60 future requests are scheduled; reopen regularly for later prompts. Dates already reached are not sent retroactively. Snooze moves a reminder seven days from today; skip suppresses that prompt. Neither changes expiry or renewal progress.

Planning sheet or backup?

Planning sheet lets you choose documents and preview a PDF without last-four fields. It still contains personal metadata. Use Share or Print after reviewing every page. Physical printing requires a compatible printer.

Settings → Metadata backup creates a complete, unencrypted JSON file including optional last-four values and history. Save it somewhere you control before deleting or reinstalling. Import validates the entire file before offering keep-existing, compatible-merge, copy, or replace choices. Conflicting histories are not silently overwritten. Repeating the same copy import is skipped. Replace restores saved settings but turns notification opt-in off until you enable it here.

Limits and recovery

The app supports up to 100 profiles, 1,000 documents, 200 revisions and 1,000 renewal/reminder events per document, with an 8 MiB serialized store/backup limit. A failed save preserves the previous readable data and shows an error. If saved data cannot be read, recover the previous intact save or import a valid backup. Do not delete the app as a first troubleshooting step.

Remove examples

Settings → Remove sample records removes untouched fictional documents. Personal documents, edited samples, and profiles their history depends on remain. Profile/document deletion shows its dependent records and offers a short undo.
